Communication Towers (Nigeria) Ltd plans to construct a 70-MW photo-voltaic (PV) power plant in Panyam Plateau State.
The solar project, which will be handled by another unit of our company, CT Cosmos Nigeria Ltd. The expected capital investment for this project would cost more than USD 170 million (EUR 148.6M), The COO Mr. Henry Opara said during a meeting with community. The scheme is a private company initiative and the government will not fund it. International investors will help in that regard, according to the report.
CT Nigeria has been given the green light for the PV project by the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), and has been shortlisted for a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Bulk Energy Purchase Co of Nigeria. The output of the solar farm, which is estimated to be enough to power Plateau and some of its neighbouring states, will be fed to the National Grid and will be sold to the Federal Government.
The facility will be located in Panyam community, Mangu Local Government Area. In partnership with German industrial group Siemens (ETR:SIE), the firm expects to initiate works at the site soon with completion seen within 18 months.
